THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE SMILE BLUEPRINT – Ethan Harris DMD

A smile blueprint is a preview of enhancements to the smile. It is used to benefit both the patient and the dentist and is a 3-D design of the new teeth shape, fabricated either by the dentist or a lab technician. A mold is created from the blueprint and tooth colored material is transferred onto the patient’s teeth. The dentist and the patient can then preview the potential shape enhancements right in the patient’s mouth!

These blueprints can be fine tuned to perfection and can be made for as many teeth as needed. The blueprint may also be used to preview corrections of bite problems as well.

When the patient is ready to proceed with treatment, the mold is used as a guide for tooth preparation.  This ensures that the most conservative and minimal tooth adjustments are made.  In some cases no tooth adjustments at all are needed.  This is a win-win for the dentist and the patient!
